A summer to forget
We made it! It is September! Overall the property sustained minor turfgrass losses from the summer stress to our greens, tees, and fairways. The shorter days and cooler nites will promote recovery of our turfgrass areas that were compromised by heat, humidity, and saturated soils.
We have started aerating and overseeding tees and will continue throughout the month of September as time and weather permits.
Greens aerification is scheduled to start this Monday (9/10) weather permitting. It is possible that it might be postponed a week if the weather isnt favorable to aerate greens. Please check the blog next week for updates and time lines regarding green aerification.
Once tees and greens are aerated we will start aerating fairways. This is tentatively scheduled for the third week of September and we need a solid week of good weather.
Its been a great year for monarch caterpillars. I have found them all over the property this season. These photos were taken in front of the naturalized river bank by the men's 13th tee.
Next season we will look to plant a monarch milkweed stand in an effort to promote environmental stewardship. I also hope to have more news this fall on our involvement in Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for golf.
Overall the course is in good shape as we head into the final stretch of the season. Fall is the best time to play golf! See you out in the fairways!
