Sand, Sand and More Sand
Aerating greens and incorporating sand into the upper profile of these old native pushup greens promotes a healthy playing surface. This practice encourages deep healthy roots, removes thatch and reduces soil compaction. Greens aeration was completed last week and I will briefly explain this labor intensive process.
First we vertical mow in two different directions. This process removes thatch and promotes a more upright growth habit. Jeff mowed up a lot of material!
Below Chris is punching .5 inch diameter holes with the greens aerator and Jeff is pushing plugs.
Once the greens are cleaned up we apply sand with our Turfco Meter-Matic Topdresser!
The greens are dragged in with a metal drag mat and then we double cut to remove any excess sand. We then apply fertilizer and water it all in.
It takes the entire crew three full days to complete the greens aeration. We are all glad to see them grow back in! Pictured below is the 5th green taken this morning.
