First for everything

Good Morning its Tuesday 10/16/18.

It is a balmy 40 degrees with windy conditions. The weather station recorded another .15 inches of rain yesterday.  Yesterday, I spoke with Keith Cudworth the Director for White Memorial Foundation.  He told me that his weather station has recorded 43 inches of rain so far this year.  He felt we will finish the year at average or slightly above average.

The golf course is open for walkers.  We have not mowed greens since last Thursday and they have not been cleaned up of debris.  I hope later today we clean up and mow some of the greens.  It is still too wet for our staff to try and maintain all the greens.

The 8th hole is not going to dry out anytime soon.  Regretfully that hole may be closed to carts for the rest of the season.  When carts are allowed it may only be for 1,4,5,6th holes only.  This has only happened once before in the fall of 2011 when hurricane Irene closed the course for 3 weeks.  I will have to speak with Scott and Fran about this unique situation so please contact the Pro shop for details.

A hard frost is expected this week.  This will effectively eliminate the need to do anymore mowing on the course.  However i do hope to mow out most of the rough and fairways one more time before we close up shop.  This will be largely contingent if soil conditions can withstand the tractor footprint.

I really wish i had some better news to report.  Mother nature is in the driver seat and we are all along for the ride.
