Ready Set Go!
Pins are in! Its only the second time in 10 seasons we have opened in March. I'm always happy to open up early and give members the opportunity to knock the dust off the clubs. The course is very green for this time of year and we will need to start mowing the rough soon. That's quite remarkable considering that normally we wont mow rough until late April.
We mowed fairways and approaches yesterday and I hope to mow tees today. The greens are still sporting their "winter" coat and are a little off color which is normal. The greens are slow and bumpy but I anticipate rolling them with "Brutus" our 1/4 ton roller. The Brutus roller will firm up and smooth out the putting surfaces When the greens start actively growing is when you will see a noticeable improvement in ball roll.
The rough still needs a lot of attention as we are still cleaning up debris from the February storm. A number of small projects are scheduled to be completed this month.
Looking forward to the new season and a new set of challenges in maintaining a golf course. Ill see you out in the fairways!
