Double Time

Early spring is a critical time for our staff to complete last years fall projects, clean up winter debris and perform preventative maintenance on all equipment.  Typically we are just opening up in mid April and are beginning to mow playing surfaces.  This year we have mowed fairways, tees, and approaches twice already! Green complexes and rough were mowed this week.  We are week or two ahead of a "normal" spring which had us doing double time to catch up.

The greens were rolled with our 1/4 ton roller this week which firmed them up considerably.  Every spring we cut the greens high to encourage a deep rooting system as we head into the stressful summer months.  I will lower the height of cut on the greens this week as we slowly creep down to a .125 cutting height.  Stay patient with green speeds as its only April!

The golf course accessories are starting to appear.  We are applying the final coats of paint on the benches and ballwashers and they will be out on the course soon.  It wont be long now till we are fully up and running.

We have a number of small projects we are in the process of working on:
  • 9 green burn pile clean up.  Area will be a naturalized with native wildflowers.  A native tree will replace the spruces that were removed.
  • New cart path to service bridge
  • Finish self contained concrete mixing loading pad.
  • Fill and seed depressions from last fall stump grindings
Invasive plants that consisted of honeysuckle and primrose were removed on the edges of cart paths on the 4th and 9th.

Greens aeration is tentatively scheduled for the week of April 25th.  This will be confirmed late next week and announced in the "Crier"

See you out in the fairways!
