That's a wrap!

We enjoyed a picture perfect fall! Its was one of the driest and warmest falls in recent memory and it will be another 20 years before we have another fall like that.  It was a pleasure to work and play on the course.  In addition to our normal fall cleanup the staff did a tremendous job on a number of small projects:
  • Tree stump grinding
  • 32 tons of lime applied to the fairways and rough
  • Brush removal around the 5th green and Buttonbush planted
  • Tree removal and limbing up trees
  • Rough grade and process gravel for environmentally friendly chemical mix pad
  • Light application of sand on greens followed by a solid tine greens aeration
  • Removal of tree roots at the surface of 9 white tee
  • Four red maples planted
Pete is applying the lime with our fertilizer spreader.  Raising the soil pH will enhance nutrient uptake by releasing soil cations that are unavailable in low pH soils.  It will take a year for the calcium to slowly break down and we should start seeing the results next summer.
Jeff is aerating the greens with our new Greens aerator.  We aerated with a 1/2 inch solid tine.  This will enhance water infiltration rates and help the soil breathe as it heads into dormancy.
In Mid October Fran Devlin graciously took all out for a day of golf at Wyantenuck Golf Club.  It was our staff appreciation day and we had a fantastic time.  I can thank Fran enough! Pictured is Jordan, Jeff, and Matt.
The staffs last day was two weeks ago.  I cant thank them enough for all the hard work that they do throughout the year.  They work tirelessly all season long to provide the membership with great playing conditions.

I have been elected to serve as the Membership chair on the Connecticut Superintendent Golf Course Association.  Im very proud and honored to serve and looking forward to getting more involved at the state association level.  We have made some strides this year with our certification in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program.  Ill review our progress and update the membership this winter.

The golf course is still open as November has been unseasonably warm.  The pins will remain in until the weather dictates we close for the season.

Have a great Holidays!
