Course Update

The golf course is in great shape as we approach the summer solstice.  The fairways have been brushed and the height of cut has been lowered.  Greens were recently vertical mowed and lightly topdressed and are rolling true.

The green committee has deemed the hill on the 2nd hole as an environmental area.  If your ball lands in this area please abandon it and take a free drop in the fairway.  We appreciate you not walking through this area.  This year I have planted a wildflower mix which will attract butterflies and pollinators next year.  The lupines that were planted a few years ago have never looked better.

The bird boxes have been successful with 2 tree swallows and one bluebird clutch.  The eggs have hatched and "jump day" is approaching.  I hope these boxes and the others will produce another clutch of eggs this season.  I will continue to monitor the boxes and anyone interested in getting involved please contact me.

Jaime Fischer of White Memorial Foundation has identified suitable habitats for salamanders on the property.  He has installed boards in the woods on the 8th hole.  He wants to quantify the different types of salamanders we may have on the property.  One species of special interest are the spotted salamanders that may be put on the CT protected species list.  This one I found a few years ago.

The course is very dry right now and a real pleasure to play.  Its a pleasure to see so many members out enjoying the course.  See you in the fairways.
