Course Update

Its been a very busy stretch since my last maintenance update and a lot has transpired since my last post.

The big news is that Chris "Smiley" Caprari took a position at Washington Golf Club.  He will be a superintendent in training and aspires to take over the helm once the current superintendent retires.  He worked for 19 seasons and 8 as my assistant.  Im very happy and proud to see Chris move on and he will be missed.  Best of luck!

Jeff Chizinski has been promoted and will be the Assistant in Training this season.  He is eager to learn the ropes and has all the characteristics of being a great assistant.

Litchfield High golf team successfully defended their crown and won the Berkshire league title! Well done!

Tree swallows have nested and are producing eggs in our nest boxes. I hope that the bluebirds will get a chance to nest after the swallows move on.  Ill continue to monitor the boxes and update our progress.

Greens were aerated, topdressed and overseeded with bentgrass during the first week of May.  We still have some weak areas on the 2nd,5th,8th and practice green.  I am still letting them grow in so the height of cut is still a little high.  Once the damaged areas are filled in I will lower the height of cut on the greensmower which will produce better green speeds.

An anonymous donor gave the course two black gums and one swamp oak.  They are located on the 7 & 8th holes.  Thank you very much!

I am very pleased with the conditions of the golf course!  The fairways are filling in nicely and I expect in a few weeks they will be in great shape.  It was a great holiday weekend and im glad to see so many members enjoying the course!
