August Update

This summer is turning out to be one of the best seasons since my arrival in 2006.  Timely rainfall, average temperatures and low humidity have contributed to healthy greens, tees, and fairways.  September is only two weeks away which for turf managers signifies a collective sigh of relief from summer plant stresses.

The golf course has been certified in Water Conservation as part of our involvement in Audubon Sanctuary Cooperative Program for Golf.  This fall we will continue to work on various goals in Wildlife and Habitat Management and Chemical Use Reduction and Safety.  Please look for this poster in the pro shop, men's and women's locker room, and clubhouse depicting some of the wildlife on our course.  The purpose of the poster is to bring greater awareness and inform the membership of our involvement in ASCP.  All pictures were taken on the golf course with the exception of the bobcat which i hope to photograph someday.

We have started the process of aerating tees and green collars.  This will continue over the next few weeks as time, labor and weather permits us to do so.  I hope to lightly verticut and lightly topdress the greens prior to club championship and the Fields Cup.  The greens will heal over quickly and should help improve ball roll for our last two big tournaments of the year.

The golf course is in excellent shape and I hope to see you out in the fairways!
