No News is Good News
I havent had anything compelling to write these last few weeks which is apparent by the lack of maintenance updates. If you have played the course recently then you are in the "know". The golf course is in excellent shape as we head into the busiest month of the season. The rain event prior to the 4th of July was exactly what the doctor ordered as the soils were extremely dry. This coming week looks like another challenging week for the turfgrass and some timely rainfall will be beneficial.
July is always the most challenging month with high temperatures and high humidity. Disease, insect, and drought are at their highest levels so i have been busy monitoring the turf and keeping these pressures at an acceptable level. Im pleased with the greens right now and how they have withstood the high heat and humidity. Im very happy to report that we did not suffer any annual bluegrass weevil damage in our fairways as we have in years past.
Recently an USGA Agronomist made an official visit and evaluated the golf course and our playing conditions. His last visited the course in 2005 and was pleased with the progress we have made since then. He has made a number of different suggestions and a copy of his report is in the pro shop. I can also email you a copy if you like. I have already implemented some of his suggestions and will use his recommendations as a blueprint for course changes over the next few years.
I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! It was perfect weather to play golf or any outside activity. Hope to see to see you out in the fairways!
