Water Hazards

Its been a difficult stretch for golf course maintenance the last 11 days.   The flooding during Memorial day weekend was a tough way to kick off the summer.  Last week as we were starting to get caught up we received another inch of rain and had another minor flooding event.  Sunday night we had an additional 1.35 inches of rain and the picture below has been the rule rather than the exception.
This area and other areas of rough have not been mowed since May 23!  We will slowly get caught up this week and by Friday afternoon everything should be back to normal. Please keep this in mind if you find yourself in one of these unmowed areas.

We have started our tee, approach and fairway spray program.  My next blog post will be about spraying and what to be mindful when you are out golfing.  Last week we sprayed plant protectants and a insecticide for Hyperode Weevils. The weevil is one of the most destructive pests of poa annua grass.  Pictured below is a Catawba Rhododendron.  This particular rhody is considered an "indicator" plant and when it blooms it is time to apply an insecticide for the weevils.  I hope my timing is spot on.

I have been letting carts out even though the soil moisture has been excessive.  Please keep it to the left on the 2nd hole and stay out of the swales with standing water.
Once it dries out the course will be in great shape!  Hope to see you out in the fairways!
