Out with the Old and in with the New
Congratulations to Mike Carr for winning the 2016 Mens Member Guest! A new format with a full field and a golf course that was in great shape. A tremendous success! Thanks for all the wonderful comments regarding course conditioning. The real thanks goes to our hardworking maintenance staff who work tirelessly in all types of weather conditions to provide you with superb playing conditions.
The greens were vented on Monday with solid needle tines.
Venting greens is a procedure which allows air and water to move into the soil profile. These tiny holes remain open for a week and causes no disruption to ball roll. The timing was perfect as now we are experiencing high humidity with nighttime temperatures in the 70s. Perfect weather if you are a turfgrass pathologist!
Overall the golf course is holding up fairly well this summer.
However, we do have some areas in fairways that are prone to wilt and disease which is evident by dead circular patches. If time and labor allows us we will aerate and seed these weak areas. On the topic of aerating we will start aerating tees and approaches later this month.
The bridge on 9 was deemed unsafe for carts this spring. One of the beam supports was cracked and sagging. This morning Rob Warner ripped out the old bridge and installed new bridge beams.
They are finishing the deck now and tomorrow they will have the railing up.
At this time I don't know when it will be open for use. So far it looks really good! Please check back here or check AJs blog for updated information about when the bridge will be open.
Now is a good time to think about renovating your lawn. If you are having problems and would like some advice please contact me. Ill be happy to stop by and see if I can help you get back on track.
See you out in the fairways!
